As a member of the Board for our Rotary club, I am please to announce that in the wake of the Haiti earthquake, our club has voted this morning to commit 1 Shelter Box and an additional $1000 in cash to Rotary International. The Shelter Box is $1000, so our total contribution for this is $2000.
As a member of an International organization, we can do a lot!
May God Bless all the people suffering in Haiti and we wish them a fast recovery.
Yours in Rotary Service,
Joseph B Mason
Originally, we thought we would have 1000 Shelter Boxes in Haiti, 400 from here and 600 from the SH factory in England. I just heard this afternoon, that we now have 4000 in Haiti. I have not spoken to all the Area 8 Clubs, but do know that Englewood has responded and Venice-Nokomis had a Shelter Box at the 18th Annual Art Fest last weekend. They received three $1000 checks and collected enough donations in cash to buy two more. There were another two promised, but who knows if those will materialize? I am sure that all the other Area 8 Clubs are or will be participating in helping to alleviate some of the suffering of those poor people in Haiti. Please, let me know of your Club's efforts in assisting in this horrible disaster within our own Rotary Zone. Haiti was also scheduled to host a Rotary Leadership Institute session in the next couple of weeks.
Thank you.
